Why you’ll love your work
Technical Variety: Cloud-native services with diverse tech stacks offer learning and experimentation.
Impact: Our services are used by customers and teams across the company – engineers, product managers, services consultants, and even executives.
Autonomy: Senior engineers design, build, and deploy complete projects and are experts in our services.
Teamwork: Your teammates are also high performers and will support you with learning our systems, brainstorming & design review, and running high-reliability production deployments.
Your typical day
Your day begins with review of a teammate’s GitLab merge request. It has already been reviewed by Claude, but you’ll think deeply about the business problem, alternative solutions, and future needs.
Then you spend a few undisturbed hours “in the flow,” working on a technical design doc for a new project. Once you’ve completed a draft, you send it to another teammate for feedback, then decide to jump on a Zoom call to talk it over and refine it.
After lunch, you join the team for a quick standup via Zoom to discuss current work and the plan for the next few days. You mention that you’re finishing up a small improvement to improve the logging and alerting for one of our components that requires high uptime. A teammate offers to review your changes. It has some complex behavior, so you walk through it together and make a few improvements.
Soon, the new unit tests are green. With a few keystrokes, you create a merge request, spin up a dev instance, and deploy your change. After some quick smoke tests, you and your teammate decide to merge the change. Your improvement will be deployed in production with the release in a few days.
Next, you respond to a Slack request for advice on integrating with the authorization API. You draft a short tech design doc that links the API spec, code examples, and optimization tips. You discuss it on the team channel, and your manager forwards it to another team that’s also starting a new service.
Your day ends with a chat with a product manager about questions that came up while drafting the tech design. With their feedback, you refine the proposal to deliver the core feature more quickly, while the product manager will work with customers and decide how much more to invest. Tomorrow, you’ll break down the tasks in Jira and decide what you’ll complete yourself and what you’ll ask teammates to complete….
Our tech stack(s)

EnodeAdded 17 Oct 2026
Remote · EuropeSalary not disclosedEngineering
About Enode
The grid was built for predictable, centralised power. Today it's absorbing intermittent supply from grid scale solar and wind, alongside dynamic demand from EVs, heat pumps, and home batteries. The missing piece is software that can connect and orchestrate these devices at scale.
Enode provides the infrastructure layer that makes this possible. Our Connect API gives energy companies a single integration to 1000+ devices across 80+ brands. Our optimisation tooling gives energy companies the building blocks to manage those devices locally - think smart charging for EVs. Our Flex product turns those connected devices into a flexible, controllable asset for energy companies.
We work with device manufacturers across the energy hardware ecosystem - from EV brands to heat pump and solar inverter producers. Our customers are energy retailers, utilities, and traders building the next generation of energy services. We're backed by Y Combinator, Lowercarbon Capital, and Creandum.
The decisions made now will shape how the energy system gets built. We're looking for people who take ownership, move fast, and care deeply about the role technology can play in the energy transition.
AI is fundamental to how we work
AI is how a team our size keeps rewiring the way we work, fast enough to match what our mission demands. We look for people who reach for AI as a reflex and who can drop a habit that used to work. People who care about unblocking others, not just about what they ship themselves. If that's not quite how you work yet but it's the direction you're heading, we'd still like to hear from you. We assess this in our interview process, alongside everything else we look at.
What we're looking for:
We're hiring a Senior Software Engineer to help build the software layer that makes home energy devices work as one system. The Home Energy team owns Enode's integrations and APIs for batteries, solar inverters, HVAC, and smart meters, along with the home energy management (HEM) system and statistics that customers build on. You'll build integrations with leading OEMs and help mature our API surface into the unified control layer for the home, at a moment when customer demand for battery and home energy optimization is accelerating.
You'll join the Home Energy team, reporting to the team's Engineering Manager. You'll collaborate closely with your PM, fellow backend engineers, and our partnership and commercial teams, from assessing OEM API feasibility to shaping how customers control energy assets through our platform.
In this role, you will:
Build and maintain integrations with OEM cloud platforms across batteries, solar, smart meters, and HVAC.
Design and evolve our home energy APIs, unifying telemetry and controls across HEM system, batteries, and curtailment into a product surface customers can build optimizations on.
Build with AI as a normal part of how you work, and turn what you learn into tools, skills and processes the rest of the team picks up, so the leverage is shared rather than personal.
Improve observability and vendor performance across our integrations, and take part in the team's triage rotation.
Work with partnership and commercial teams on API feasibility for new OEM integrations.
Build strong relationships with the customers who rely on our platform, working alongside your PM and commercial partners, and let what you learn from them shape what we build.
Debug and ship production features in Node/TypeScript on our AWS-based stack.
Take a product-engineer mindset, balancing speed, quality, and customer impact in your day-to-day decisions.
Curious what you'd actually be building? Explore our API docs and the Enode Tech Blog to see what we ship and how we think about it.
This role will be right for you, if:
You're an ambitious backend engineer who likes to own things end to end: from an ambiguous problem, through design and integration work, to something shipped and running in production. You find integration challenges satisfying rather than frustrating, including working with third-party APIs of varying maturity, and you're energized by tough technical problems.
You're comfortable navigating ambiguity and bringing clarity and structure that help a team move forward. You collaborate naturally with engineers, PMs, and commercial partners, and you like being close enough to the product to influence where it goes.
Above all, you care about building software with real-world impact that supports the shift toward a cleaner, more flexible energy system. You bring:
Experience building and maintaining backend services in production, ideally in API or integration-heavy systems.
AI is a real part of how our engineers work, and we expect a senior engineer to be fluent with it. You use AI day to day, you understand where it helps and where it falls short, and you think about your work in terms of what AI can take on. If you're not fully there yet, you're eager to get there fast.
Strong skills in designing for reliability, scalability, and performance.
Ability to own work from initial scoping to production rollout, including iterating based on customer or usage insights.
Comfort in fast-moving, sometimes ambiguous environments where teams create clarity together.
Clear, thoughtful communication across engineering, product, and customer-facing teams.
A product mindset: you care about solving the right problem and making life easier for customers and teammates.
Nice to have:
Experience with TypeScript/Node, AWS services, PostgreSQL, TimescaleDB, or similar production tooling.
Familiarity with home energy assets (batteries, solar/inverters, HVAC, smart meters), energy markets, or IoT/device ecosystems.
Prior exposure to API-first products or integration platforms.
On-call or incident response experience.
What we offer:
Opportunity to join and impact an early-stage climate tech startup with global aspirations as we scale.
A mission-driven, fun and caring environment with high drive and ambition.
Competitive compensation, including a very attractive employee option program - you’re part of our journey.
Access to best in class AI tooling, we think the ceiling on what a small team can do has fundamentally shifted, and we want you to feel that.
Real investment in your AI fluency. Dedicated time to build the skill, an internal skills library you can contribute to, and the tooling budget to work properly.
Remote-first in Europe, with the option of attending an office in Oslo or receiving a co-working pass on demand.
Three annual off-sites to connect with the team in exciting & fun places.
Flexible, human-first culture.
Stipend for setting up your home office.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A few things to note:
Enode is an equal opportunities employer. Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that women and people of colour are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single qualification. We are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may just be the right candidate for this or other roles.
Our values are integral to the way we work and are embedded into all our hiring processes. You can read more about our values here.

About the Role
We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join a newly forming team that will own one of the most specialised and business-critical domains in our technology landscape - Game Engine.
This role sits at the intersection of engineering, game mathematics, platform, and compliance. You’ll work on the tools, frameworks, and services that enable our mathematicians and game teams to build, validate, run, and monitor game logic in production.
This position is about deep ownership of a very specific technical domain: game engines, mathematical packages, simulation data, RTP monitoring, round details, and integrations with games developed both internally and by external studios.
You’ll be part of a small, experienced team with a high level of responsibility. The impact of this work is direct: incorrect game logic, missing round details, or inaccurate RTP monitoring can affect game delivery timelines, business performance, and regulatory readiness.
If you enjoy working close to complex domain logic, reviewing technical implementations, understanding how games work under the hood, and owning systems where precision matters - this role will feel like home.
Key Responsibilities
Own, maintain, and evolve Playson’s Game Engine domain
Work on internal frameworks and libraries used by mathematicians to implement game logic and mathematical packages.
Review and validate code written by mathematicians, ensuring quality, correctness, maintainability, and proper usage of internal frameworks.
Contribute to the development and support of game engines used to run mathematical logic within our platform.
Support integrations with external game studios by helping build wrappers and bridges between third-party game implementations and Playson’s platform.
Work with data structures and protocols that connect game logic with frontend and backend systems.
Contribute to RTP monitoring processes, including validation of production transaction data against simulation data and expected mathematical behaviour.
Support and evolve tools used for mathematical review, simulations, data files, monitoring, and alerting.
Implement and maintain round details logic required for regulated markets, ensuring that detailed game round information can be correctly provided to partners and regulators.
Collaborate closely with mathematicians, backend engineers, platform teams, compliance stakeholders, and product representatives.
Participate in code reviews and technical discussions to ensure a high engineering standard across the Game Engine domain.
Investigate issues related to game logic, mathematical validation, monitoring, and engine behaviour.
Participate in minimal on-call responsibilities related to the systems owned by the team, mainly around monitoring, alerts, and domain-specific incidents.
